Jeff Furmanek, President
After a 13-year career in the Marine Corps and a second career at Northrop Grumman from which I retired, my wife and I relocated to Florida from Arizona in July 2023. I now work remotely as an Engineering Manager for an Army Corps of Engineers support contract.
We have a wonderful family of five children and twelve grandchildren. My hobbies include boating, bicycling, fishing, and golfing. Having previously served as Vice President for an HOA, I have valuable experience that I am eager to bring to this board. Thank you for the opportunity to serve; I look forward to contributing to our community and planning engaging neighborhood events.
Stephen Besette, Vice President
Born and Raised in Pinellas county, this has been home for roughly 42 years. Married to Jenna Bessette, we have 3 beautiful daughters, Riley, Aria and Dylan. We own and operate the #1 ice cream and Smashburger shop in Tampa Bay, Dairy Rich! You will probably see me running around in the neighborhood with the kids if you ever need anything feel free to email me.

Jeff and I moved to Florida from Vail, Arizona, in the summer of 2023. We have five children and twelve grandchildren spread across Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Virginia—my favorite role by far is being a grandma, which keeps me happily busy traveling. After 11 years in the classroom and 23 years as a high school principal, I retired following a 34-year career in education. In the final three years of my career, I also returned to my alma mater, the University of Arizona, where I taught statistics and mentored teachers in a master’s program. In my free time, I enjoy the beach, biking, golfing, and boating. I am passionate about volunteering and look forward to putting the challenges of being an unexpected “contractor” after the hurricanes behind me. I’m excited about the opportunity to serve on the IBI Board.
Sean Mclaughlin, Secretary
I’m excited to be one of the newest neighbors on Indian Bluff Island, having moved here from Crystal Beach in April. My wife, Desiree, and I grew up in Sarasota and now enjoy the slower pace here with our son, Liam, while finally realizing our dream of living on the water. I’m an admittedly below-average fisherman working to improve, but I do enjoy spearfishing whenever I can get out. As a family, we love to travel and spend as much time as possible on or in the water.
I served 23 years in the U.S. Army, retiring from the Reserves last year, and I’m still figuring out what I want to be when I grow up—if I ever do. If you see me walking the dogs, please say hello and share what you love most about living here.
